About City Bakery

City Bakery was founded in 1999.  The operation was housed in part of the space that Jack of the Wood occupies in downtown Asheville.  The bakery was eventually moved to and based entirely out of our Charlotte St location. We moved into a warehouse on Lyman St in order to expand our wholesale business in 2002. After we were hit hard by the 100 year flood in 2004, we moved our entire operation to the site of the old Blue Moon Bakery, which is our current main location on Biltmore Ave. We expanded west to Waynesville in 2012 when we moved into the old Whitman’s Bakery on Main St.

We are an independent, family owned company. We strive to produce high quality, fresh breads and pastries for our retail and wholesale customers. We source products from local businesses when possible and we believe in giving back to our community through donations and interaction.

We bake a wide variety of breads daily. Specializing in traditional French breads, we form our breads by hand and use as little yeast as possible in order to let our breads rise slowly allowing them to develop complex flavors. Baked in our deck oven, we deliver to our cafes and wholesale customers fresh every day.

Our amazing pastry staff creates croissants, danish, éclairs, cupcakes, & more and bakes them fresh every day. Need a custom or wedding cake? We specialize in that, too!
Breakfast & lunch are served in our cafes. Grab a cup of locally roasted organic coffee or espresso drink to go with your fresh baked goods.
